The Banksia Campground near Walpole is in need of some further T.L.C.
The site is a 10km 4wd into the campground where there are 4 accommodation rooms, a kitchen area, a shower area and two drop toilets. An iconic location in the South West where we will be able to swim during our breaks and warm up by a fire. This is an opportunity to complete the bollards around the camp site, finish the steps down to the beach as we have been promised more materials than last time!
Additionally, there has been a fire in the region where a bulldozer was required to create fire breaks. This has created an obvious scar on the environment, but we can help! The photos below show the scars created and they need to be brushed as soon as possible. This is a fantastic opportunity to get a large number of us together for a few days. We will need a team for the bollards who may also do the steps or they could allow that job to be a different team! We will put up the new curtains for the four rooms and then we will needs teams for the brushing. We have been assured that enough brushing will be available when we arrive. There could be three teams to do the brushing where we pass the brushing up the slopes in a daisy chain. It has been suggested that it is unlikely that we can complete the brushing in one trip. Well, we will be looking around the area, maybe doing some fishing or swimming but maybe we could also prove them wrong!
As the accommodation “Rooms” have already been renovated they will be available for use. Camping will be swags or tents at the site. Those with caravans can set up at Crystal Springs and then drive each day to the Banksia camp. Note that Crystal springs is not a very level area and there are some low trees so accommodation may be a little fiddly.
Track Care have been invited to do the following:
- Replace the curtains.
- Apply nonslip paint (clear) to the tiles in the toilets.
- Complete any bollard placement.
- Complete the steps to the beach
- Do as much brushing as possible.
- General clean-up
Dates: 19 April to 23 April
Meet at Crystal Springs 3pm on April 19 to determine who is staying where and how transportation will work for those with Caravans and fill out the appropriate paperwork. Please indicate when registering, the number of people (spaces) in the vehicle (Ticket) including yourself. There is a limit of 4 people per vehicle.
