The local farmers around Narembeen (280 km east of Perth) created a wildlife sanctuary around 2008. The fence is currently being replaced by volunteers but they really would like a bit of help. Through the WA Landcare Network, we have been asked if we could supply 4-6 volunteers with pliers and/or wire cutters. This event is initially a registration of interest from which Graham will coordinate the first steps and then ask one of the registered people to manage the project.
You would be working with someone who is already organizing the local volunteers and under their instruction.
Essentially there will be two teams: one to unroll the rabbit mesh (wire) and another team to clip the wire to the 9 km of fencing.
The aim is to stop foxes, rabbits and echidna from getting in. Yep, the echidnas dig holes and the other two gain access!
The timing for this is over the next month. If you are interested in spending a couple of days at Narembeen (with the possibility of camping in the bush or staying in the caravan park) please register your interest here.
There will be space for 20 people to register interest which means that some registrants may not get picked. The selection will be done based on booking time and dates available.
Could you put the dates and duration you would be able to attend and the type of accommodation (caravan, roof top tent, tent, etc.) in the comments, please. Could you also book one ticket and put the number of people coming (including yourself) in the spaces. Please register BEFORE September 24. The project will be scheduled from tomorrow through to mid October and the timing will depend on your registrations.
Graham will look for the timing overlaps to create a team to go down.
Thanks for your attention.
