Pindathuna Cottage Restoration – Part IV

This event will be a continuation of previous works, carried out over the past two years, with the primary focus being the continued repairs to existing mortar work and whitewashing.

Structural work will focus on bird proofing the rooms, replacing bearers on the west veranda and possibly installing corrugated flashing above the west veranda (this will be dependent upon personnel available, and having first completed re pointing of the stonework on the gable face)

The work schedule will follow the format previously established.

• Travel to Pindathuna on Saturday 15^th August
• The first prestart meeting will be 0800hrs Sunday 16^th August
• Wednesday the 19^th will be a rest day (activities that day may depend on consensus at the time)
• Work completion and pack up on Saturday the 22^nd August
• Travel to Perth Sunday 23^rd August

Pindathuna Station is located on the larger Gabyon Station and is approximately 538 km northeast of Perth. It is sealed road to Yalgoo, with the last 47 km from Yalgoo to Pindathuna consisting of good dirt road suitable for any dirt-road capable caravan or camper.

Limited non-potable water is available at the cottage, which also has woodstove. Limited potable water may be available at the main station house; however people should plan to be self-sufficient regarding food, power and water. There is occasionally limited Telstra signal available near the main house, however this is unreliable and should not be relied upon.

The cottage kitchen has plenty of seating areas around the tables, however the kitchen sink drain is not connected, so the sink cannot be used. There are two “Donkey” heated showers and a flushing toilet available at the site.

More work needs to be done at Pindathuna and we’ll send details soon but in the meantime if you could register your interest here that would be great.

Please note that these dates do not include travel time.  The project has a kick off meeting on site on the morning of the 16th. This means that you travel before the 16th to get to site. The time it takes to get there is up to you but the trip can really be quite interesting and people have been known to take several days!
