HERE IT IS: Finishing off with a bang!

From the first time I ventured on to this track, way back in May 2023, I felt a strong connection to it – felt that it was/is Special. It’s beautiful.
The Last Major Trees-on-Tracks Challenge is to get the alignment of Lightning Road to match, as close as is possible, the Conservation Operations Graphics (COG) mapped (original) path!!
This short section of track (5.37km) runs along/across a low ridge and through a lovely Wandoo Open Woodland valley; and it passes within easy walking distance of a small string of granite boulders off to the West.
However, Lightning Road takes The Prize for having “The Most Chicken Tracks” of any road in The Wandoo; – there are 35 of them in all!!!
The task is not particularly difficult – on a Scale of 5, we are looking at a difficulty range of 1-3! (There are NO Humongous Fallen Trees!).
With sharp chainsaws of all sizes, shackles and drag chains; a few crow bars (for log rolling) and several Teams, there will be opportunity for all to be involved. (Perhaps take the chance to have a go at dragging logs – you will be supervised!)
There is a section of relatively spread senescent Banksia Sessilis in the middle. On my recent (January) check-recce of Lightning Road, I was able to clear most of the way through that dead Parrot Bush – so it’s not going to require heavy work!
Amongst the most useful other equipment to bring: personal PPE including Safety Footwear, secateurs, loppers, weeding/gardening gloves, sturdy rakes/rake hoe’s, cordless reciprocating saws and pruning saws.
It’s a Field Day for Everyone! We’d love to get lots of media, too, as it will be the last Big Tree Day for quite a while.
After this Episode, most of the work in The Wandoo will involve less dramatic action such as Signage removal; signage installation; clearing the big rubbish; and spasmodically, removing the newly fallen trees.
