This is during the school holidays for those members that would like to bring kids!
Another Track Care event that doesn’t have associated a skerrick of work! It is the same plan as the previous soiree!
Want to get to know people and find out their interests and whether there is a synergy on interests within the group?
- Suitable for all camping arrangements up to condo caravans.
- Need to be fully self-contained.
- Roads are either sealed or well made and formed dirt roads.
But,
Most if not all local authorities in this region are very tuned in to providing facilities for RV travellers by providing fee free campgrounds with a toilet (Some very new).
- A supply of wood for an evening communal campfire. Will be available.
- Each day the aim is to stop in the mid afternoon at free camp sites, most have ample room, but the trip is NOT in school holidays, others may be there, and plans cannot anticipate that.
- You WILL NEED an 80 channel CB radio.
- We can’t cater for pets with 1080 risks and the like throughout the region.
The plan is still evolving but to whet your interest,
Clackline, Goomalling, Minnivale, Koorda, Newcardboen Rock, Mollerin Rock, Beacon (Fuel) Billiburning Rock, Berrinbooding Rock, Elachbutting Rock, Baladjie Rock, Westonia (Fuel), Wiera Eaglestone Rock, Nungarin, Danberrin Rock, Cunderdin, Youndegin, The Lakes
The details of the PROPOSED trip because we may have to alter this depending on numbers. So that people understand the convoy needs to be limited to be considerate to other drivers on the road and keep a reasonable timeframe during each day.
Daily Plan:
DAY1 0830 Meeting at Clackline for departure at 0900. Travel to Toodyay and then Goomalling for morning tea. From Goomalling on through Tin Dog Creek at Dowerin (the home of the Dowerin agricultural machinery Field Days) to Amery a once bustling railway junction, to swing back East to take a look at the old bakery at Minnivale. We can take a short break here and for those interested and not too frightened to find out……. your caravan and tug can be weighed on the old CBH weighbridge. That could be enlightening and possibly frightening. At some stage we could have a campfire discussion about GVM, GCM, ATM, GTM, TBL, and Axle loadings. If we have a lot of weighings, our timing may become tight, but it is a great opportunity to be weighed for free (but no individual axle weighings).
On to Koorda or Newcardbeon Rock for lunch (dependent on time).
After lunch on to Mollerin Rock camp for the day.
DAY 2 Leisurely start with time to walk about the site and explore the rock. Depart 1100 for Beacon, a small go ahead community on the very edge of the wheatbelt. Use the opportunity to refuel vehicles if needed and ourselves with lunch. Supplies are available in a small community co-operative supermarket. Take a wander around the men’s shed machinery display. I am told all tractors here are operational and that has been due in part to the stewardship of a retired farmer.
Depart 1300 for Billiburning Rock to camp for the night and explore the rock, find the well and Gnamma hole.
DAY 3 An earlier start departing Billiburning 0900 for Beacon. Morning tea in Beacon and refuel. From Beacon we head East through Wialki and Bonnie Rock which were both at one time served by a railway, but their community centres have now disappeared. We stop for lunch at Berrinbooding rock.
Take time to explore, read the history and see the 2-million-gallon concrete tank built by subsistence workers, the wall to collect rainwater and look at two gamma holes, one is huge.
Depart Berrinbiiding 1500hrs for Elachbutting rock to camp for the night.
DAY 4 Another very leisurely start with time to explore and see another rock wave, take a walk through under a rock slip. For those very adventurous climb/walk to the top and see ally farming to the west using oil mallees. Depart 1100 hrs for Balladjie Rock and lake
Lunch and camp for the night. Explore the rock and reserve
DAY 5 Depart Ballajie Rock 1000 hrs for Westonia arriving around 1100 hrs
Refuel. Set up camp at St Luke’s Church . This is a site where you must be fully self contained including grey water.
Explore the town and if your vehicle is mobile the Edna May open cut mine from a lookout.
This is a very progressive town that treasures its history, and I am told its older residents in particular, with outstanding service provision to them.
Evening Group meal at the hotel (details TBA).
DAY 6 Depart Westonia 0930 hrs for Weira
Morning tea at Wiera, departing 1000 hrs for Eaglestone Rock
Lunch at Eaglestone Rock and camp for the night. Explore the rock and surrounds
Day 7 Depart Eaglestonre Rock 0900hrs for Mangowine, Morning tea at Mangowine, Depart Mangowine 1030 hrs for Nungarin,
Refuel lunch and explore the town – Nungarin was a large army base during World War 2 extending over 640 acres slightly more than 250 hectares. It was part of defence in depth complemented by the air force bases at Guildford, Pearce and Cunderdin, and a Field hospital in Merredin plus extensive ordinance stores North of Merredin.
Depart Nungarin 1500 hrs, or earlier if all assembled, for Danberrin Rock to camp for the night
Day 8 A day of options
Those wishing to depart for home independently can do so and travel back to Perth either via Trayning, Wyalkatchem, etc or go South and travel back from Hines Hillvia Great Eastern Highway.
For those wishing to travel back in the convoy: Depart Danberrin Rock 0900 hrs. Travel South to Hines Hill, from there we will pick up the Old Goldfields Road and head West through North Baandee, Old Doodlakine , take a look at Shark Mouth Rock, a late morning tea at Youndegin and then stopping for at Cunderdin for a look at their museum in the old Number 3 Pumping Station on the Goldfields Water supply. Cunderdin is also the home of the re-created Ettamoogah Pub.
Depart Cunderdin at 0200 hrs, rejoin the Old Goldfields Road and head East through York for the Lakes Roadhouse where the tour finishes and all can make their way back home after a week of exploring .
