This year’s maintenance trip will have a few significant additions to the workload with the repair of Well 46 and toilet cart repairs in a few spots. The well was burnt out a few years ago and has blocked a significant water source from the travelling public. It’s a favourite camping spot as there is a Track Care toilet located there and it’s amongst some nice trees. Part of the project is in collaboration with the Ngurrara Rangers who asked for our help to erect an interpretive sign at Whispering Pines near Well 49. They will then assist with the Well 46 repairs.
On the way up to Fitzroy we will be installing new tourist’s sign at Newman, Halls Creek and Wiluna. This will add quite a bit to the travel time and I’m planning 5 days for this section. Up to 800km per day will be required. No trailers other than TCWA work trailers are allowed.
I will be taking one Track Care trailer but there maybe a need for someone to tow another trailer depending on the equipment required, so I’m looking for a volunteer. It’s planned at this stage to meet the Ngurrara Ranger Group in Fitzroy on Aug 12. I have set the start date from Perth as Aug 6 to arrive at Fitzroy Aug 11. If you wish to travel up separately and take longer, that’s ok just be in Fitzroy by Aug 11. We will most likely camp at the Fitzroy River Lodge campground. The entire trip from Perth up to Fitzroy, down to Wiluna and back to Perth will take around 4-5 weeks so it’s a big trip.
