In this Clean Up, we are changing gear – it might seem a bit like Low Range compared to the excitement and spectacle of our last Episodes! But if time permits, we could tackle at least one more of the Humungous trees?
Clearing Darkin Road is our primary challenge – it’s an important minor access road in the South Eastern portion of The Wandoo, that loosely follows the course of the Darkin River. It starts from the Brookton Highway and arcs towards the North West along a ridge-line, to eventually cross Yarra Road. There are the usual small and mid-sized tree-trunks to deal with; and then quite a few stretches of Parrot Bush “Banksia Sessilis”.
Those Parrot Bush areas are trafficable, but encroaching rapidly. Our objective here will be to clear a 3m wide path, mostly by selective removal of stems and dead branches. That achieved, we will probably not need to repeat this trimming for a couple of years (Yet To Be Proved!? – Mother Nature/Bushfire will decide!)
This is our first serious foray into the wilder, less frequented Southern Wandoo National Park. As always, both interesting and beautiful.
