Our First 12 months of experience in clearing fallen trees and their debris from the roads and tracks of the Wandoo National Park (The Wandoo), has seen an enormous growth in our skills and abilities; which we have used to improve the driving experience for all and sundry who venture off the bitumen and out into The Wandoo.
We have gone from using just cordless chainsaws (very effectively), to undertaking Accredited Training to enable us to use petrol chainsaws too!
We have gone from using our “old-dog smart’s” to manoeuvre logs around to enlisting real horsepower to drag huge chunks of dead trees out of the road-ways! t’s been a thoroughly enjoyable 12 month journey.
We’ve progressed from being faced with this situation:
To this:
Our members have whole-heartedly supported this Project, and increasing numbers of our 4WD club friends are contributing meaningfully as well:
So far, 40 Track Care members have been along at least once to assist – (the “Gold Star” goes to Stephen Shaw who has been there on ALL 10 days!!); 15 Toyota Land Cruiser’s, 2 Subaru’s & one 4WDClub member have joined in too! That’s a total of 58 individuals!
This project has made a real difference to the forest, our relationship with DBCA, to the wider community and is a great example of the work Track Care does. There is still a lot more to do with events for this and next year already planned so stay tuned.
