After a short break and cup of tea in the company of the Friday volunteers at Bindoon Bakery, we headed off to Warriedar.
At Wubin Terry & Nanette, Ray and Jeff & Lyn headed to Karara homestead to pick up all the doors that had been removed from Warriedar. This was not as easy as expected as we had not traversed this area before. However after consultation with a truckie we found the right track to Karara.
After securing the doors in the trailer we headed off to Warriedar.
The track to Warriedar was in fair condition with a few puddles and wash aways to contend with.
We arrived at Warriedar around 5pm just as the sun past the yard arm.
The rest of the crew, that went direct to Warriedar, had installed the submersible pump and filled the wheelie bins with water to flush the toilets that we established last November.
On Saturday we welcomed the company of Selwyn, Ross & Maureen and Charles & Patricia.
Peter, Ray & Don were kept very busy repairing the walls to the out buildings whilst the rest of the crew prepared the homestead for painting.
The under gutter blocks and scotia trim was installed whilst the rest of the crew washed walls and sanded down skirting’s and doors ready for painting.
Barry Brown worked his magic with the timber work, making a new fireplace surround and repairing many other timber related requirements.
Selwyn was kept busy repairing gutters.
After all prep was completed the painting started in earnest.
Myself on the spray gun painting the exterior and Ria on the roller painting the inside walls with everyone else busily painting skirting’s, architraves, the French doors and the lower render on the outside walls.
By this time Peter, Ray & Don had exhausted their cement supply before completing their task.
Many thanks to Ken & Iris who volunteered to travel to Geraldton to purchase another 10 bags of cement to complete the shoring up of the original homestead and the saddle shed.
To our surprise Peter & Angela from a neighbouring mining tenement arrived to give us a hand. This was most welcome as Selwyn & Don had to depart on Monday arvo for work commitments.
By this time we had the TCWA BBQ installed so we enjoyed a pleasant BBQ and many evenings around the fire.
After of a full on week of restoration at Warriedar we finally packed up all the equipment and then did a reconnaissance of the homestead and out buildings to quantify stage two of this epic Warriedar restoration.
Many thanks to all volunteers who worked so hard on this project. I am looking forward to future works at Warriedar and the many other DEC Rangelands buildings that require TCWA’s Rangelands Committee support.
